Our Guide to Choosing the Right Exercise Ball

Working out can get boring. Let’s face it—sweating your butt off and pushing yourself to your limits isn’t always fun! In fact, you may even feel like giving up sometimes because of the monotony of your working routine, keeping you far from your fitness goals.

If you’ve wanted to spice up your workouts, then an exercise ball is perfect for you! Some may consider an exercise ball an unnecessary gimmick, which doesn’t help you while working out.

Contrary to what some may think, an exercise ball is actually a great addition to your workout plan, especially if you’re having difficulty sticking to the same routine!

What Is an Exercise Ball?

An exercise ball is a giant inflatable ball that helps improve your balance and core strength. Physical therapists also use them during balance, core strength, and strength training exercises.

The exercise ball may look like a large, round ball, but it’s designed to provide some instability. The instability is what makes working out with an exercise ball so effective. Working out on an exercise ball is a great way to enhance your core strength, allowing you to perform more exercises, as well as an excellent way to improve your balance.

Using an exercise ball allows you to engage more muscles than you would by bench pressing or squatting, meaning you’re able to strengthen your muscles more thoroughly.

The instability factor also works since your muscles are constantly working to keep you from falling off the ball, resulting in a greater workout than you get from traditional activities. Your muscles are working differently than they would otherwise, which is what makes the exercise ball so effective.

How to Find a Suitable Exercise Ball Size

Choosing the right exercise ball for your workout depends on your height and weight. Most balls are measured by their diameter, and you want to find one with the perfect diameter for you.

You want to make sure your exercise ball is the perfect size to enhance your stability. If the exercise ball is too small, you may not be able to keep your balance. If the exercise ball is too big, you may fall off the ball and injure yourself.

To select the right exercise ball size, there are several things you’ll want to keep in mind.

Step 1: Measure Your Height

First, you’ll want to measure your height. You can measure it with a vernier or a tape measure. If you’re going to use a tape measure, measure your height from your floor to the top of your head.

For a more accurate measurement, the top of your head should be the highest point of your body while you’re standing up straight. You don’t want to stand on anything while measuring your height.

Step 2: Measure Your Waist

Next, you’ll want to measure your waist circumference. You can do this by placing a tape measure just above your hip bone. Make sure that the tape measure stays level, and then take the measurement.

Step 3: Determine Your Weight

Lastly, determine your weight. There are several ways to do this, but the easiest way is to just step on a scale. If you prefer a more accurate measurement, you can also measure your body fat with a body fat caliper.

Using an exercise ball is a great way to spice up your workout plan and increase the amount of exercise you’re doing. It’s affordable, so you can easily purchase one for yourself. There’s nothing to lose, so if you want to take your workouts up a notch, try using an exercise ball!
